BACKGROUND
South Africa will be the Country of Honour at MIDEM in January 2010. MIDEM is an annual music market held in France whereby role-players in the music industry from around the world showcase their product. MIDEM is designed to provide opportunities for business networking, information exchange, promotion and product development for music producers, performers, individuals and entities providing support services. Midem is the highest profile Music trade show in the world. About 10 000 people from all over the world – involve in the music business attend the event.
A host country is given the opportunity for a full-blown marketing and promotion of its music through live events and publicity and thus providing an undivided attention from top executives in music business across the world.
The MIDEM project is coordinated and supported by the national Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) as part of the strategy for export growth in the music sector. AIRCO welcomes the initiative as a great opportunity for record companies to have direct business contact with potential clients from various corners of the globe.
SA offering for MIDEM 2010, include among others, a Pavilion/Exhibition stand which will be the home of all South African companies who will attend MIDEM in 2010. AIRCO has taken advantage of the MIDEM opportunity and thus approached the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for financial assistance for emerging companies to be part of the export initiative at MIDEM in 2010. The DTI has requested AIRCO submit a full application on behalf of local emerging companies, for funding consideration.
In the light of the above, AIRCO is inviting legible companies to submit as soon as possible their application for consideration. About 20 potential applicants will be selected for submission at the DTI.
GUIDE ON SELECTION CRITERIA FOR SUBSIDY
Applicants will be selected based on their ability to convince the Selection Team that they meet the requirements which are articulated in the selection criteria below:
- South African registered company (a copy of your CIPRO certificate founding document is to accompany the application)
- Affiliated or belong to music industry related organisation
- Proof of local, export-ready sound recordings and/or musical works
- To show a monetary willingness to contribute towards the mission, a fee of R1500 is payable upon your application being successful
- Supply a recent tax clearance certificate
- Preference will be given to emerging companies with strong empowerment credentials
- A completed Emerging Exporters Application form (attached).
- A copy of the entity’s exporter registration certificate from Customs & Excise.
- A full visible colour product brochure, CD ROM, photographs, or pictures of the products to be exhibited.
- A business profile (including company name, contact details, business address, background, ownership, vision, mission, products, services and conclusion)
- Audited financial statements or bank statements for the last three months.

ONLY INFORMATION PROVIDED ON THIS APPLICATION FORM WILL BE CONSIDERED BY THE PANEL. Candidates will outline clearly how their profile meets the preferred requirements. All information given will be treated with the strictest confidence. Continuation sheets may be added if necessary.
