Moshito 2008 Announced
South African music industry portal MIO has announced the dates for the 2008 Moshito Music Conference. Africa’s premier music conference and trade exhibition celebrates its 5th anniversary in Newtown, Johannesburg from 10-13 September 2008

In September this year key music industry professionals from across South Africa, other parts of the continent and the world will gather in Newtown to share their ideas and knowledge of the music industry at Moshito ’08. This celebration of the 5th edition of Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition aims to broaden the business intelligence of music industry professionals, strengthen business networks for participants and inform delegates, traders and the public about the multifaceted and dynamic nature of what is truly a global cultural industry.

Conference themes for Moshito 08 extend to technology, piracy, social development, new markets and live music. Making their way into the event’s architecture, the themes outlined reflect the starting points for the Moshito 08 programme and the content of plenary, breakaway and hot seat sessions. Moreover, in an effort to access and understand fast-paced technological innovations of the music industry, Moshito 08 brings the digital arena into sharp focus by drawing on expertise from its local and international networks.

Moshito 08 for the first time also plants Moshito roots in the concert halls and venues in Newtown, enabling delegates and visitors to select live performances from our eclectic music cultures.

Since inception in 2004 with support from key sponsor, Department of Arts and Culture and recently the Gauteng Department of Sport Arts Culture and Recreation, the annual Moshito attracts established music businesses, musicians, composers and new industry entrants who engage, learn and explore up-to-date music industry and business developments.

All this takes place over four days and through trade exhibitions, live music, showcases, discussion and information forums, participants assess the industrial and cultural landscape of local music, before voicing opinion about how South Africa should respond to shifts at both international and domestic levels.

With increasing visibility on the international music industry calendar, and in addition to highlighting the role of music in our society, Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition will once again give prominence to the vitality of the music industry within South Africa’s democracy and economy.
