| Free Download Distribution for Independents from Amazon |
|
Amazon's new CreateSpace services enable independent artists and labels to get into Amazon network at low cost. These drives echo previous initiatives from Amazon to monetise the small business owner in digital music.
Amazon-owned CreateSpace has added an MP3 distribution service that enables indie musicians and labels to sell downloads through Amazon MP3's online store with no setup fee. Artists receive 60 - 65 US cents per track depending on retail pricing. Users can also simultaneously set up a CD on CreateSpace’s disc on-demand service which offers a direct conduit to Amazon's online CD store.
Currently Amazon MP3 offers 6.1 million tracks and this move is part of the site's ongoing effort to offer the deepest catalog possible. It is also part of a larger trend towards lower distribution fees which continues to put pressure on digital distributors to cut fees and add services. original article
