AIRCO, the Association of Independent Record Companies, is a non-profit, Section 21, South African national music industry association; pro-actively serving and representing the interests and development of South African independent record labels across South Africa and the world.
AIRCO's membership comprises independent record companies, across the full spectrum of music genres, from across South Africa, and ranging from small sole traders to some of the biggest independent operators in the country. AIRCO’s vision is to grow the Independent's market share, improve visibility of independent music and artists, and promote key issues such as market access and cultural diversity in all national, regional and international policies.

Current AIRCO Board
|
|
The current AIRCO board was elected at the AGM on 21 October 2008 by AIRCO members, with Chair, Vice Chair and Heads of Committees elected by the Board on 8 November 2008. All board members serve on a voluntary basis and are not remunerated for their service. A new board will be elected at the AGM, as per the Organisation's Constitution.

By early 2005, the feeling that the Local Music committee at RISA was proving to be ineffective had developed among independent South African record companies, and therefore it become imperative that an Independent Association representing Independent record companies be formed.
